Council Oak Books takes its name from a great oak tree that still grows in the center of our home city. Here the Locapoka Creek Indians established their tribal meeting place and rekindled their ceremonial fire after the long journey west over the Trail of Tears.
Since the founding of Council Oak Books in 1984, the circle around that sacred fire has expanded with each season, like the widening rings of history and new growth within the ancient Oak itself. Our goal is to be the meeting place for the telling of stories that speak directly to the human heart. Our books are meant to inspire the sharing of knowledge in the quiet, contemplative space beneath the great Oak.
